'Session' is the word used to describe any one period of time you spend using the CD-ROM. You can save and load sessions, which means that you can store the work you have done with the system.
For example, when you choose 'Save session' from the Tools menu, the screen you reached at this point, plus the contents of your Notepad, are saved as a Planet Earth Session file which can be placed on your hard disk or a floppy disk. You can then load this session the next time you use the CD-ROM and continue with your work.
